Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast: Zadar to Split

While the scenery may not quite rival the views to the south of Split along the Makarska Riviera, the coast road is still definitely worth a drive.

Among other aspects, there is boat and ferry access to the islands from points which are considerably less busy than Zadar’s Harbor.

The weather in autumn is beautiful, the sky and water intensely blue. Although there will be tourists aplenty at that time of year, the traffic will certainly be well below summer levels. When vacations need to be planned around school vacation schedules, of course, going in autumn is not an option.

It was the time of the olive harvest. We drove by picturesque scenes of local people in the olive groves bringing in their year’s supply.

The town of Marina, on the coast road between Split and Zadar, evidently named for its most prominent feature.
