Boundary Waters

|
Grand Marais and the
Boundary Waters
Blessed with an
excellent natural harbor
and scenic location on the shore
of the world’s largest freshwater lake, Grand Marais is worth
a visit.
Located at the
eastern end of the Gunflint
Trail, the town is a popular starting and outfitting point
for canoe trips into the Boundary
Waters Canoe Area and Voyageurs National Park.
The area has a history as long as
anywhere in North America, since the French
“Voyageurs” were already exploring the area when
the
English Pilgrims arrived aboard the Mayflower at Plymouth
Rock.
Unlike
the East Coast,
the coast of Lake Superior
has changed relatively little since the days of the early explorers.
With a canoe and a little imagination you can travel back in time.
